I am into playing the lotto and powerball. Does anyone know the science of arranging numbers to hit?

May 31, 2010 - 12:14 am 6 Comments

I just recently got started playing the lotto and powerball. Getting ready to play pick three as well. I really want to know how to increase my chances to win. I know there is a science to playing instead of luck. Want the best answer soon as possible. Getting ready to play this week.

All lotteries are totally random events, there is no mathmatically consistant way to increase your chances of winning such that the amount you win on average will be more than the amount you win by playing "some other way"

The numbers drawn in previous draws have no effect on the numbers to be drawn in the future, if one week draw is 12 14 15, the next weeks draw is just as likely to be 12,14,15 again as it is for any other combination of numbers.

You could increase the frequency over time that you win by buying more lottery tickets, but you will still lose more than you win.

The house advantage on lotteries are HUGE and they should just be avoided all together, casino games offer much better house advantages, you should play them instead if you want to best your chances at winning money.

The lottery was initially developed as a way to raise extra government revenue, it is known as the "fools tax" for this reason, so just dont play it.

How to analyse the results of the jessness and the jvis?

May 31, 2010 - 12:14 am 1 Comment

Has any of you ever found free examples of these two psychological tests on the net??? And tips to analyse the results.

I’ve never heard of either of these. I did a search on jvis and came up with this link: http://www.sigmaassessmentsystems.com/assessments/jvis.asp
When people ask where to find inventories, I always refer them to two sources: the mental measurement yearbook and google scholar. There have been times in which I wasn’t able to find an inventory in the mmy. In those cases, I simply wrote to several authors of a paper, which used the inventories and asked them for 2 things: 1) a copy of the inventory 2) how they scored the inventory. Most are more than willing to comply–especially if they had a hand/are trying to promote the inventory.
As for tips to analyze results, I would first have to know what your hypotheses are. If you are simply trying to compare two groups, conduct a t-test or a one way ANOVA. This can be done in spss, sas or even excel (although I don’t know how to do it in excel). If you are trying to correlate scores on either inventory with some other variable or even correlate the two inventories, go to "correlate" in spss and click bivariate. It should give you an r value.

Are jackpot winners usually chosen numbers or quick picks?

May 31, 2010 - 12:14 am 2 Comments

Does anybody know? I personally play the same numbers because I would never forgive myself if the jackpot hit on a number I had previously played.

Most jackpot winners are quick picks. About 80% of all lottery tickets sold are quick picks, so the odd favor quick picks.

How do you determine a winning pitcher in baseball?

May 31, 2010 - 12:14 am 6 Comments

How do you determine a winning pitcher? I had thought that an order to get a win, you had to pitch at least half of the game but George Sherrill took the win in the NY/Seattle game last night by only pitching one inning…….?

For a starting pitcher, you have to pitch at least five innings and leave while your team has the lead. If the game is tied up, the starting pitcher gets a no-decision.

For a relief picther, who ever was last on the mound when a team’s offense scores the go-ahead run gets the win.

So, when Sherrill got the win in the Yanks/Mariners game, it’s because he was the last person to pitch for the Mariners when they scored the winning run in the 9th inning. If the Mariners had scored two runs in the 8th inning, Reitsma would have gotten the win because he was the last pitcher before the 8th inning.

Why do most of the lottery winners live in remote areas?

I am a sometimey lottery player and I have noticed that the majorty of the major winners live in West Bubblehead Arkansas…LOL!!! Does anyone else feel this way? You hardly ever hear of someone winning it big in a major city.
