Why does the winner of a fight get his hand raised?

June 28, 2010 - 8:48 am 2 Comments

When a fighter wins he/she usually raises their hand in victory and often when a professional fight comes to a decision the referee will raise the hand of the winner in the air. Where does this tradition come from? How did this start?

Just a guess here but I would say that it goes back to the days before pa systems and so the people in the back of the arena would know who won.

What is a good prize for pulling the winning World Cup team in office competition?

June 28, 2010 - 8:48 am 9 Comments

We are running a World Cup competition in our office and as we are an office of 250 (ish) there will be 7 or 8 winners. Any ideas on a good prize at a reasonable cost? They would need to be individual prizes.

day off work

or gift cards to a restaraunt or bar

How many numbers do you have to get to be a winner in lotto?

June 28, 2010 - 8:48 am 4 Comments

Oz Lotto in particular… I’ve never been a big player, I don’t really understand it much to be honest!! Tonight I got a 25 game quickpick for the $50 million dollar draw, and on one game I got 3 numbers and a supplementary, and on another game I got 4 numbers.
I know I obviously haven’t won the 50 mil!! But am I a minor winner??

How do I know if I have won?
To win a prize, you must match at least 3 of the winning numbers plus either supplementary number in one game panel. There are 7 prize divisions. The Oz 7 Lotto prize divisions are as follows.

Division What you need in one game to win
1* All 7 winning numbers
2 Any 6 winning numbers plus either supplementary number
3 Any 6 winning numbers
4 Any 5 winning numbers plus either supplementary number
5 Any 5 winning numbers
6 Any 4 winning numbers
7 Any 3 winning numbers plus either supplementary number

*All First Division dividends are provisional for 2 weeks following a draw.
A standard entry in a drawing of Oz 7 Lotto cannot win a prize in
more than one division.

If you bought somebody a lottery ticket for a gift and they won the jackpot, what would you do?

June 28, 2010 - 8:48 am 5 Comments

Would you be happy for them? Would you kick yourself? Would you hope they shared it with you? Would you be mad if they didn’t offer you any money? The other way around though, if you were given a lottery ticket for a gift and won the jackpot what would you do? How would you feel?

I’d be happy for them and no I would demand anything or ask for anything..it was a GIFT! Not a requirement.

If I won…Most would go to the government. Do you realize that 66 percent of every 1 million goes to them? YEP..thanks to BO!

I would share what is left….and spend it all before BO took the rest! At least I would have it…and they couldn’t take it. (I would get it all in gift cards and keep them for use!) government can’t count that as income then.

Which state lotteries have the highest payout rate?

Is there a way to know?
I mean, which have the best odds of winning?

That would probably be judged by the population. I think New York is one of the highest.

Why do I keep winning a sun stone in the bug catching contest in Pokemon?

June 28, 2010 - 8:48 am 5 Comments

I have Pokemon heartgold version, and it seems like for the past 8 times that I’ve won the bug catching contest, I’ve been getting a sun stone. I’ve read that the winning stone is random, however I can’t seem to get any other stone than a sun stone! I’ve tries using a different pokemon to catch other ones, and I’ve tried winning with a different bug pokemon each time. Nothing seems to work! Please help.

Unfortunately until you get the National Dex you can only get sun stones which really sucks. So you have to wait after you get the National Dex you can get the other evolutionary stones. Hope I helped ;D

What is the best and safest way to invest lottery winnings of $8 million or more in the state of California?

June 28, 2010 - 8:48 am 10 Comments

I was wondering what are some of the safest ways to invest a lottery prize so that the money lasts long enough to pass some of it to my family? Assuming an $8 million dollar payout over 26 yrs, and indexed for inflation. I would obviously start by living within my means and not spending on things I don’t need. I am pretty disciplined financially so this would not be a problem.I am looking for low or guaranteed return on my money besides ,of course, putting it in the bank.

This is a very tough question to answer without knowing more about you and what you want to accomplish. I have been giving financial advice for over 28 years… and I would NEVER tell someone what to do with that kind of money over the phone and/or over the Internet.

Although there are very safe investments to choose from (other than bank accounts), such as: fixed annuities, equity indexed annuities, tax-free muni bonds, and U.S. government bonds (not savings bonds as their rates are incredibly low right now), my advice to you is to find a financial planner that you like and trust. That may mean having to interview 2 or 3 planners, but it important that you like their style and that you trust their advice. The best way to find a financial advisor is to talk to family and/or friends. Find out of any of them like who they work with and get a referral.

Good luck!
