What if a student won the powerball? Taxes?

July 14, 2010 - 7:04 am 3 Comments

I am a student, and in the USA, full time college students are given pretty generous tax breaks. Now what if a college student hit the powerball? If they were to take the lump sum, would they be responsible for much less tax than someone who is not a full time college student?

It doesn’t matter what your status as a student is — you pay taxes on those things and if you take a lump sum, you still have to pay taxes. IRS won’t give tax breaks to lottery winners.

Frankly, if I ever won Powerball, I’d not be a student anymore — I’d quit school and start living.

I, a guy, have used Methyl Ripped Hardcore with great results and would recommend it to any other guy. However, I have a female friend who would like to use it but is hesitant to do so. She would like to know what results other women have experienced while using the product and would like to see before and after photos.

It’s been three months since I found out that I won and I still haven’t recieved my prize. I’ve tried writing to them but they haven’t replied. Is there any email or something? Any answers would be appreciated.

So I looked through a magazine as well as the website, and all I found was the editors address;

I received an email today 5/6/2010 that I had won an end of the year lotto drawing by Yahoo. I cannot believe it is true. How to I find out it is true?

It’s not true, it’s just a scam based out of another country (usually Nigeria) They just want your personal info. There is no such thing as a "Yahoo Lottery Drawing"

How would you change your life if you won a lottery jackpot?

One of my favorite daydreams is to imagine my life after winning one of those multi-state lottery jackpots. I’m curious as to what others might do.

This is one of my favorite daydreams, too. I’d pay off my student loans from college (currently my parents are paying them since I’m in grad school), and I’d stop taking loans for my grad classes.
I’d also get a new car, since my current one is from 1990.
I support a little girl in Peru through Compassion.com, and I’d like to give them some financial help as well.

How does winning state lottery affect my income tax?

July 14, 2010 - 7:04 am 11 Comments

I am an 18 year old student. My aunt bought a winning ticked for the florida Play-4 lottery, $800.00. She asked me to use my information to cash in the ticket. When I did, i received a W2-G form, and it said total income $800.00 with no taxes taken out of it. How will this affect when I file for my regular income tax next month? Thank you in advance.

So…your aunt did some tax evasion by sullying your good name.

If you are a student with $0 earned income, you won’t owe tax as the first $900 isn’t taxed.

if you are a student with, say, $2000 of earned income, you will owe $50 since your standard deduction will only cover the first $300 of it. Mention this to your parents and ask them how they feel about your Aunt’s borrowing your name and SSN.

How much would I have to spend on the lottery to have a guaranteed return?

How many tickets would I have to buy to get a guaranteed return playing the lottery?
Not necessarily winning the jackpot, but say if I brought £200 of tickets, how much would I win back?

Each number sequence, in the region of £14,000,000+. And you would have to have a worthwhile jackpot – which hopefully wouldn’t be shared!..
