I am a student, and in the USA, full time college students are given pretty generous tax breaks. Now what if a college student hit the powerball? If they were to take the lump sum, would they be responsible for much less tax than someone who is not a full time college student?

It doesn’t matter what your status as a student is — you pay taxes on those things and if you take a lump sum, you still have to pay taxes. IRS won’t give tax breaks to lottery winners.

Frankly, if I ever won Powerball, I’d not be a student anymore — I’d quit school and start living.

by people from the Midwest where Powerball originated?

Probably because more people in the Midwest play Powerball. Also, populous states like New York and New Jersey don’t participate in the Powerball.

If you Win $10,000 on powerball how much would they take out in taxes????? And do they pay you all at once???

It depends on where you live, on whether your state has a state tax or not.

I was wondering if the store let you keep the POWERBALL lottery ticket that you won a prize with,if they just mark it or something?! So,you would keep track on the amount of tickets you got in the year and control your gambling addiction!
Well,since my prize was less than $600 USD,I went to a lottery vendor and got my money prize there! I forgot to ask them if they can just mark my lottery ticket!

You have to sign the ticket and give it to the lottery office. Why not just make a copy of the ticket before you turn it it? Then you can mark on the copy what you won and also keep track of the ticket for your count.

I need five numbers and another as the powerball:)
The numbers range from 1-45 and can only be picked once each.
