Has anyone received a message stating that they won this Microsoft or msn powerball draw in England?

June 7, 2010 - 10:00 pm 6 Comments

I just received a message in my yahoo e-mail account telling me i was a winner in a powerball drawing from the Microsoft company in the U.K. I want to know is it legit?

This is a SCAM. Check out the below link for confirmation of various lottery scams, including the famous Yahoo/MSN lottery scams and how to report them.

Unscrupulous thieves have sent you this email and they are trying to part you from your hard earned cash. They will often ask you to call a premium rate number and keep you holding on whilst you rack up a huge phone bill. They are then paid a large proportion of this phone bill. They may ask you to divulge personal information about yourself or ask for your bank or credit card details. Do not divulge any such information under any circumstances. It is surprising how many innocent victims have been duped by these types of emails. Just remember the thieves who send them are very clever and extremely convincing. I suggest you delete the email and send it into cyberspace, hopefully along with the thieving scumbags who send them.

I am into playing the lotto and powerball. Does anyone know the science of arranging numbers to hit?

May 31, 2010 - 12:14 am 6 Comments

I just recently got started playing the lotto and powerball. Getting ready to play pick three as well. I really want to know how to increase my chances to win. I know there is a science to playing instead of luck. Want the best answer soon as possible. Getting ready to play this week.

All lotteries are totally random events, there is no mathmatically consistant way to increase your chances of winning such that the amount you win on average will be more than the amount you win by playing "some other way"

The numbers drawn in previous draws have no effect on the numbers to be drawn in the future, if one week draw is 12 14 15, the next weeks draw is just as likely to be 12,14,15 again as it is for any other combination of numbers.

You could increase the frequency over time that you win by buying more lottery tickets, but you will still lose more than you win.

The house advantage on lotteries are HUGE and they should just be avoided all together, casino games offer much better house advantages, you should play them instead if you want to best your chances at winning money.

The lottery was initially developed as a way to raise extra government revenue, it is known as the "fools tax" for this reason, so just dont play it.

What is a Powerball Techno? What does it do?

May 22, 2010 - 8:58 pm 27 Comments

It’s the evening and I have a new digital camera to play with so I recorded this short video demonstrating one of my favourite toys. People do say it’s an exercise tool, not a toy though. I say it fits in your hands, has lights and makes a noise – it’s a toy!

The light levels and sound capture are awful, but I put that down to trying out the new camera.

The word at 1:20 is “gobbledegook”.

Why is it that the odds of hitting a powerball number correctly is 1 in 62 ?

May 22, 2010 - 5:16 am 2 Comments

Why is it that the odds of hitting a powerball number correctly is 1 in 62 whereas there are only 39 numbers in the powerball, shouldn’t the odds be 1 in 39?

It is 1:62 that you will hit the Powerball number AND NOT hit any normal number (thereby winning the $3 prize). The chance of hitting some normal numbers accounts for the remainder.

From the Powerball website FAQs:

A common complaint is that our odds are wrong. Sure, the odds of matching 1 red ball out of 39 are 1 in 39, but we are not giving those odds. We give the odds for winning a prize for matching one red ball ALONE. If you match the red ball and one or more white balls, you win some other prize, but not this prize. The odds of matching one red ball ALONE are less than 1 in 39 because there is some risk that you will also match one or more white ball numbers.

How much I spend on the Powerball?

May 18, 2010 - 9:08 pm 4 Comments

The Powerball jackpot is up to $215 mil. Should I take my whole paycheck and buy tickets or spend at the very least $100? Do you think I would win something?

$0 – The lottery is a tax on people that are bad at math…….think about that one. The odds for the Powerball are so ridiculous that it is a sucker bet. Keep your money, save it or spend it on something for yourself.

Powerball :

Jackpot = 1 in 195,249,054
$200,000 = 1 in 5,138,133
$10,000 = 1 in 723,144.64
$100 = 1 in 19,030.12 (4 numbers)
$100 = 1 in 13,644.24 (3 numbers + powerball)
