WHat kind of prizes could be given to elderly people?

July 2, 2010 - 4:02 pm 12 Comments

I am planning on having some girls from my sorority volunteer at an elderly home and was wondering if we played bingo, what kind of prizes could we give to them? I thought it would be nice if say the first 5 winners got a prize so it is not so expensive. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

Could you give a coupon or gift certificate for a fast food treat?
Like winning an ice cream sundae or something equal. Or even
a trip to a burger place for a burger and fries and drink? Or you
can think of small generic prizes. Like a small note pad and
a small pen, to write down reminders. A small hand mirror with
a magnified side. Or evan a small lint brush. A new tooth brush,
a good hair comb. A small container of even dental floss? Find
usuable products for an elderly person that go with personal
hygene, and you’ve got a winner, I’d think. Even a bottle of
pleasant tasting mouth wash. Or a container of hand soap in
a hand pump container. Maybe one that has a refill included.
Or a flavored chap stick. Or a new calendar, for writing down
appointments by the date. Some drug stores have mini ver-
sions of toiletries we can all use in baskets that make good
stocking stuffers. So why not as prizes for a bingo party?

My mom’s place used to have Bingo…the people LOVED candy! A small box of chocolates, or a bag of sour mix, or even M&Ms.

Good for you girls, that’s a great thing to do!

Pins, pens, notebooks, calendars, scarves, key lanyard worn around the neck. They like most trinkets, small statues, and some will call bingo when they don’t have it, would be nice if they could all get a prize if you can fit it in your budget.

Gee, a lot of great ideas. I found most items at $1.00 stores, I’d stay away from candies, etc, so many of us are diabetic, so thats a no no. The tubes 0f hand & body lotion, bouquets of artificial flowers. Address books w/pen and small kits for sewing & manicures. Don’t forget the guys! They like to smell good also! And small pic frames.

    HAVE fun!

Go to a Dollar Tree Store or Just a Buck, whatever is in your area. You can get lotions, stationary, shampoo, nail polish, cologne’s for men and women, books, do dads, you name it, that way you could do more than just for 5 people. I worked in Nursing Homes for many years, and the Residents get a kick out of winning some little something. I commend you for doing this for them. Have fun…

In the home where I work they play for nickels. They all bring their little change purses in anticipation of winning. And there is a little store in the home where they can spend it.
